Qualified Charitable Distributions

For individuals over age 70 1/2, the IRS allows you to make gifts of up to $105,000 per year to one or more charities from a Traditional IRA as a tax-free transaction. Known as a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD), the gift also counts towards satisfying the annual Required Minimum Distribution (RMD). For clients subject to RMDs who are charitably minded, or do not have need of the additional cashflow, the QCD provides a tax-planning opportunity to bless your church, ministries, and the community. Any non-profit organization that qualifies as a charitable 501(c)3 is eligible to receive a QCD. In recent years, the SECURE Act 2.0 moved the beginning RMD age out to age 73, and for younger generations, to age 75. However, the QCD eligibility age remains at 70 1/2. For those who are between the ages 70 1/2 and 73, you may consider shifting your charitable donation funding source from your checkbook to your IRA, in order to be able to claim the standard deduction on your tax return and make gifts tax-free from the IRA.

If you have questions about QCDs or RMDs, and would like to discuss your charitable giving plans with us, please don't hesitate to give us a call or email us.

If you are ready to make your gift, please complete the questionnaire below to provide the charity name, address, and dollar amount of gift you would like to make from your IRA. You may also provide special instructions, indicating if the gift is part of a pledge,  capital campaign, or legacy gift.

If you wish to make multiple gifts to various organizations, please submit one questionnaire for each organization. As soon as we receive your completed questionnaire(s), we will prepare the relevant LPL distribution form(s) and contact you to confirm details as well as coordinate the timing of your gift.
